Description
(GEN) Mary Delany (1700-1788), was a prolific letter-writer who knew many of the intellectual and literary figures of her day. This unpublished manuscript is entitled 'Marianna', a narrative romance telling the story of the eponymous heroine’s path from childhood to adulthood and marriage, set in the upper class society of Georgian England. Delany's original 1759 manuscript of this work is in the Lilly Library, Indiana; this is a later fair copy made in the 1770s or 1780s as a gift for Queen Charlotte. |(PRV) According to Sotheby's, once the property of Queen Charlotte, with 'Written by Mrs Delany' written in her hand on the title page.||(PHY) Bound notebook in half red morocco over marbled boards, with gilt edges.
