(GEN) Missing Volume I. p. 574 - ChesterfieldĂ­s 'A Letter From a Nobleman to His Son.' With numerous contemporary ink signatures, and an ink inscription, on the preliminaries, indicating that this was a family copy. Inside front board and front free end paper ink inscriptions appear to be a list or inventory of household items, including "Laudanum", "Sweet olive oil" and "Soap liniment." Long ownership inscription across recto and verso of second front free endpaper, reading: verso: "David Maliphant his Book Kidwelly Carmarthenshire. Elizabeth Maliphant her Book Bought in the year of your Lord Kidwelly Carmarthenshire." recto: "Elizabeth Maliphant is may [sic] name and England is may [sic] nation Kidwelly is my dwelling please and Crist [sic] is my salvation when i [sic] am dead and in may [sic] grave and all my bones are roten [sic] look in this book you shall find may [sic] name when i am quite forgoten [sic]. Elizabeth Maliphant Kidwelly Carmarthenshire South Wales." The hand is consistent in this inscription, compare to variety in preceding inscriptions. With an engraved frontispiece and title page.||(REF) ESTC lists a 1760 edition only, but many of those;||(BIN) Contemporary full calf, gilt lettering, red label, enclosed in a new archival box.
