(DES) The poem was written in Haworth, July 12th, 1839. This is a preliminary uncorrected proof copy for its first appearance in 1860 in the 'Cornhill Magazine', edited by William M. Thackeray.||(DES) At a later stafe, punctuation and spelling were added as also the word "dark'ning".||(LOC) The poem was reprinted in 'The Life and Works of Charlotte Bronte and her sisters'. the Haworth Edition, vol iv, 1900, p.385-386||(ADD) This proof sheet was discovered in an archive formerly kept by 'The Cornhill Magazine'.||(DON) Donated by Sandra Clark, 2018
