Description
(GEN) A fifty-eight page manuscript in two different hands, never published, entitled 'Goldsmith - A Melo Drama in Two Acts.' Attributed to Fanny Holcroft, the daughter of the dramatist Thomas Holcroft (1745-1809), who published at least two plays and an original novel. The fact that this, clearly juvenile, play has an all female Dramatis Personae suggests that she may have written it while still at school. The drama, apparently set in France, features Cardillac, the avaricious villain; Oliver, the hero; Isabella, Count Roseberg, and others.||(PRV) With a contemporary armorial bookplate with the name 'Stainforth.'||(BIN) Contemporary half calf, marbled boards, gilt lettering.
